What? The Power of the Face: A Roadmap to Great Portraits

See more & sign up!

Take a journey as we explore the physical and psychological study of pulling back the multi-facet layers that are involved in identifying "markers" that will reveal your subject. We will cover behavioral profiling which can range from how your subject sits, to how they hold their hands. Also covered will be the study of your subjects facial structure, identifying anatomical flaws, and solving with corrective approaches for ultimate portraits. These applications apply to fashion, commercial portraiture, or the classic portrait. Some of these techniques have been used by the master painters which are relevant in creating the most flattering portraits of your subjects.

Willard Suitcases

Photographer, Jon Crispin, photographs a collection of suitcases left behind by residents of the Willard Psychiatric  Center in Willard, NY. To Jon, they open a small window into the lives of some of the people who lived at the facility. After shooting, Jon began producing prints on Entrada Rag for the "Changing the Face of What is Normal" exhibit at the Exploratorium in San Francisco. He will also be part of TEDx talk on Martha's Vineyard in August. View his full collection and his wordpress site!

Several years ago a friend gave several boxes of Entrada and it is really the only paper I have been using since.  The profiles you provide are right on the money, and I am always happy when the printer spits out a print.

MoabTV Expands!

As eProducts and hybrid photography enter into the mainstream of photography displayed proudly on screens of all kinds, prints aren't going away but instead are becoming premium items that draw more attention than ever before.

Will Crockett is a leader in Hybrid Photo education and in elevating the print to an ultra premium product that allows him to connect his images to the viewer, mount them sometimes even without glass to increase the connection, and to charge a heck of a lot more than a typical "lab print" sold by his competitors.

Join Will here as he vlogs about how you too can elevate your images into exhibition prints with Moab.

Not only does MoabTV expanded with a new Will Crockett page, but it now has a YouTube Channel! This is the place to learn about digital printing. Here you'll find our version of reality TV, where we pass on our tips and tricks to produce your work on Moab paper. If there's something you'd like to see posted - or if you have something already produced - shoot us an email and we'll do our best to add it to our collection. Put your feet up, crack open a cold one and enjoy the show!

The Ultimate Great Apes Safari Workshop with Andy Biggs

In late August 2014, Moab Master, Andy Biggs will lead a private group of photographers to Uganda and Rwanda to photograph Africa's Great Apes: magnificent mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. This safari will focus on photographing Africa's wild chimpanzees and mountain gorillas up close. Photographing these incredible primates is unlike any other experience in Africa or the world. Mountain gorillas and chimpanzees are under increasing threat and these are some of the last remaining places where one can spend time with them in protected areas. They will have three FULL days of chimpanzee viewing and photography in Kibale National Park near the Ruwenzori Mountains in southwestern Uganda. There are a VERY limited number of full-day chimpanzee permits allocated each day (their permits allow full days spent with the chimps while the majority of the permits are only for one hour of viewing) and they have secured the full-day permits for three days. They then head to Rwanda and Volcanoes National Park for three days of photographing mountain gorillas. If you have ever wanted to spend time up close with the great apes, you will love this experience.
