Collaborating with Photographer Robert Farber

One of the most important annual contemporary art events in the United States, Art Miami showcases the best available artworks of the 20th and 21st centuries in collaboration with 125 of the world's most respected galleries. Additionally, Art Miami's sister fair CONTEXT is dedicated to the development and reinforcement of emerging and mid-career, cutting-edge artists.

At the Canon booth #E13, award-winning photographer Robert Farber will showcase a collage of his most impressive images and share insights and personal experiences for working with the output devices. Show attendees can interact with Canon's latest artistic printing solutions -- including the imagePROGRAF iPF6450 printer, which features enhanced color management capabilities and the PIXMA PRO-1 printer -- a powerful, high-quality professional inkjet printer that produces stunning color prints and dynamic black-and-white images. All of the images will be printed on Moab's Somerset Museum Rag. Robert will also be giving out 16x20 sized images.

Both the renowned Outdoor Photographer and Digital Photo magazines have selected Slickrock Silver as their 'medium of choice' for 2013.


Moab Paper makes the Editor's Pick list again as Slickrock Silver nabs the inkjet paper category in their Gear of the Year roundup for 2013.

"Killed" With Printing By Jim Roselli

"Killed" will be on display November 25th-December 20th at the Pure Space Studio, 601W 26th St, 12th floor, Suite 1225, NYC. "KIlled" will  feature images by more than 20 photographers including Hans Gissinger, Kenjie Toma, Marcus Nilsson, Ilan Rubin, Anita Calero, Marcus Gaab, Plamen Petkov and Christain Witkin. Food stylish Victoria Granof has also arranged to show mementos from her years working with Irving Penn. All of the photos will be printed by master printer Jim Roselli of Xact studios in NYC on Moab Paper.

Norman Seeff Featured in The Carrousel de Louvre

During these three magical days, the Carrousel de Louvre turns into a temple of photography and welcomes galleries, collectors, and institutions alike to live intensely and together to celebrate our passion for photography in a fiery atmosphere.

PhotoPlus Day 1 Highlights

What a whirlwind of a day! The show was packed. Slickrock Metallic Silver almost stole the show, but it had some stiff competition with the Moab Master presentations at the far end of the booth. Large 40x60 prints on the Silver from Harold Davis and Jim LaSala truly showed the impressive caliber of this amazing paper.

And those who were able to see the five Moab Master presentations got a real treat with insights into NASA, Haiti, Cuba, African wildlife and fashion. Live Slickrock printing demos on the new Canon Pixma PRO-1 rounded out the day.

Star-studded speaker line-up at PhotoPlusExpo

Get ready to be dazzled (and informed) by some of the biggest names in photography. We're pretty stoked to announce the photographers who will be giving short presentations in the Moab booth (#750) during the upcoming PhotoPlusExpo show in NYC.

Like all things Moab, we are taking a slightly different approach to these presentation: We've simply asked the speakers to talk about themselves and their work - no sales pitch. Some will be conducting hands-on printing workshops while others will be providing an intimate discussion on their work. Harold Davis will even be giving away copies of his new book!

We're still hammering out the exact times, but the confirmed line up will include Andy Biggs, Barbara Bordnick, Harold Davis, Jody Dole, Robert Farber, Jim Graham, Ryszard Horowitz, Douglas Kirkland, Jim LaSala, Michael Soluri, Salvatore Vasapolli and Michael Zide.

As you can see, all the photographers are at the peak of their game, each having made a huge impact on the photo industry. Expect every presentation to be a keynote event.

Springtime in Paris (A photo workshop)

As summer comes to a close we're already skipping past winter and looking forward to Spring. Paris holds a special place in the heart of this writer so we're especially pleased to announce this photo workshop in Paris led by Moab Master, educator, author and all-around cool guy, Harold Davis.

The nine day photo tour (April 26-May 4, 2014) is packed with activities and excursions with an itinerary that begins the moment you land in the City of Lights. In addition to learning about light, night photography and composition, you'll gain exclusive access to the city including an after-hours tour through Monet's famous garden at Giverny.

It's best summed up by a participant from last year's workshop, "Had an awesome time with Harold, Mark, and the workshop participants.  Itching to go back.  If you’re a photographer, Paris at night is a ‘Must Do!’.  Put it on your bucket list ‘cause you may not see this in Heaven.”

Outgassing and Slickrock Silver

We've been receiving some inquiries from people about outgassing their prints prior to framing, with one in particular asking about what to do with the new Slickrock Metallic Silver.  

Outgassing is a reality of inkjet printing. If you plan to frame your image behind glass, then it's necessary to allow the print to gas out otherwise a 'fog' could appear on the back side of the glass.

The amount of time needed for outgassing depends on ink load, ink type, coating type, absorptivity of the coating and paper, and ink quantity (light vs dark). The glycerin and glycol used to keep the pigment particles in the suspension in the ink, and to keep the ink from clogging the head, take a longer time to evaporate than the time we accept as drytime.  

This is not only true of RC photo papers. Because RC papers have a PE layer (plastic layer) that limits the amount of ink that can be absorbed into the paper itself, they do require longer outgassing time than a matte coated fine art paper with no barrier.

What about our new Slickrock Metallic Silver 300?  Most (all) of the true-metallic inkjet papers on the market are not instant dry. They use a swellable coating that keeps the ink on the surface. That is why you need a solvent spray to lock in the ink with those other papers…the coating does not really absorb the ink.

Our new Moab Slickrock Metallic Silver is a game-changing product. It uses a microporous coating that is designed to quickly move the ink away from the surface, thus creating the illusion of instant dry. There is no metallic like this in the industry. People are going to have to throw away everything they think they know about metallic and its poor dry time.

Michael Zide Photography Workshops

This weekend, July 20-21st,  Moab Master Michael Zide and Kemachat Sirichanvimol, former editorial photographer at Bower Publications are teaming up to present the "As You See It. Finding Your Creative Voice" workshop. This two day event will focus on techniques to utilize light, weather texture and form to reflect a more personal vision in the landscape. This session will be taight using Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Adobe Lightroom 4.
