Moab and the Maine Media Workshops

We're proud to announce our participation in an upcoming workshop up at the Maine Media Workshops this summer.  The workshop titled, As you See It: Finding Your Creative Voice will be taught by none other than Moab Master, Michael Zide.

The hands-on workshop takes place from June 26-July 2 and delves into all aspects of landscape photography - and what better place to do this than on the Maine coast!

Need another reason to sign up?  All images made during this workshop will be printed on Moab papers.

'Where in the Moab' contest - Spring Edition

Our winter 'Where in the Moab' challenge just ended and the lucky (or just very smart) Ron Cordek of California takes home a 100 bucks for correctly identifying "The Organ" Courthouse Towers located in Arches National Park. The $100 certificate is good for anything on moabpaper.com.

Our Spring Challenge is now open.  If you think you can identify the shot to the left, photographed by our very own Moab Master, Salvatore Vasapolli, then enter your answer for a chance to win.

Good Luck!

Profiles for the new Epson R3000

There's been a lot of chatter about Epson's new R3000 printer, especially since it features three media paths to accomodate heavyweight papers and a roll adapter.  So when you finally get yours delivered you'll be all set to print on any Moab paper.

We were able to get our grubby hands on the new 13" printer and have been running it 24/7 to produce the best possible profiles on all the Moab papers.

Download the free profiles here.

Strike a Pose

Seems kind of obvious, but there really is an art to posing people in front of the camera.  Figuring out how to arrange two or more people can be difficult.  Add some children (and pets!) and you've got quite a situation.

So, our friends at FridayPhotoSchool.com got the photographer (and professional poser), Rick Ferro to give up his secrets in this hour-long session titled, "Posing Pairs, Couples and More."

You might be thinking: A full hour on posing?!  But having seen Ferro in action last year, we can attest that an hour isn't long enough! There are no hard "rules" with Rick, just a series of methods he uses to create the smooth, calm, relaxed sessions that flow into profitable prints.

Blue Moons | Yellow Cows | Green Tambourines

Just came across this amazing book by Michael Glenwood.  Illustrations & pages done on Rives BFK and tipped in prints on Entrada.

Created in 2008 for a Book Arts class at the
Corcoran College of Art, the books subsequently found their way into three different gallery shows,
accompanied by a full suite of 31 framed prints, and three of the illustrations
were honored by being selected for the Society of Illustrators juried exhibition.

Read more about the book and the artist.

Exhibition printed on Somerset Museum Rag

The Australian based landscape photographer, Joshua Holko, has a new photo exhibit up at the Source Photographica in Melbourne. The exhibition was printed solely on Moab's Somerset Museum Rag paper and consists of prints up to 44" x 60".

After trying all the 100% cotton papers on the market, Somerset Museum Rag became his favorite paper. "Its simply gorgeous and in fact has replaced all the previous papers I was working with. I am now printing exclusively on this paper."

We couldn't have said it better ourselves. Click here for more info about Joshua's work.

Learn how to shoot creatively with less gear

Ty reveals his tips on how to marry ambient and artificial light together, and the delicate balance of keeping the two in harmony to make his brand of stylized portraiture.  You will learn how Ty works efficiently to create his set up and move right into shooting, then to post processing for output.

This hour-long WebTV episode of fridayphotoschool wraps up by showing how this very successful shooter sells his signature look to clients. If you are looking to add some simple yet powerful style to your lighting and portraits, don't miss this program with Ty Fischer.

WPPI 2011

We just completed another WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographer's Association) show and we're exhausted. The convention center at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas was packed all three days with many photographers making a point to visit our booth to see the new Lasal Exhibition Luster 300 paper. We think it's safe to say they were not disappointed.

We had a gorgeous 44" print using an image courtesy of Moab Master, Chris Lalonde (see above). Everyone was blown away by all the detail in the deep, dark blacks.  If you want to give it a test drive, get your free sample to experience this extraordinary new paper.

We also showcased Somerset Museum Rag 300 using a stunning wedding from Moab Master, Jim Graham. The paper continues to receive awards for best new fine art paper (the latest from the Professional Photographer's Association).  If you've tried it, you'll know why everyone's talking about Somerset.  If you haven't tried it, click here to request a sample.

We also exhibited with our Museo buddies who presented their popular 100% cotton artist cards and the awesome Silver Rag.

Thanks to all the Moab fans who visited our booth.

New Lasal Exhibition Luster 300

We spent the better part of the last year speaking (and, more importantly, listening) to as many of you as we could.  Trade shows, e-mails, phone calls, in-store events - we asked what you wanted and we set out to make it happen.

What we heard most often was the demand for a luster paper with weight and rigidity of an exhibition grade that won't break the bank.  Oh, and it has to print better than anything on the market.

Many months and trials later, we're proud to present Lasal Exhibition Luster 300

At 300gsm, Lasal Exhibition Luster is ideal for exhibition and gallery quality prints. Using a bleeding-edge fourth-generation coating, we've been able to produce a paper with an expanded color gamut never before seen in a luster paper.

Named after the La Sal mountains, whose snowy peaks tower above Moab keeping watch on the canyon lands below, Lasal Exhibition Luster 300 remains true to its namesake, incorporating many of the elements found in the surrounding Moab environment: pure crispy whites and deep, luscious colors.

Profiles?  Yeah, we've got them too and we're adding more every week.

Epson's NEW 4900 and we have the profiles

If you're like us and are one of the lucky few to have scored the new Epson 4900 printer, then you're going to love the new profiles we just loaded up to our ICC Profile download page.  And we have to tell you, the profiles are pretty awesome.

We usually get our paws on most of the new printers prior to their release, enabling you to use your favorite Moab paper with our profiles as soon as you hook the puppy up.

Not to toot our own horn (twice now in this post), but we spend countless hours building and tweaking our own profiles to give you the absolute best printing results. Haven't tried them yet? What are you waiting for?

Somerset Museum Rag wins Hot One Award

We're pretty excited to announce that our very own Somerset Museum Rag 300 won a Hot One award from Professional Photographer magazine. Details will be published in the March issue of the magazine and will also appear on their website.

Anyone who's ever printed on Somerset Museum Rag knows what an amazing paper this really is. Haven't tried it yet?  Take it for a test drive on us. Simply send us an email (include your address) and we'll send you a sample.

Robert Farber exhibition at the Frost Art Museum

Robert Farber has been a long-time friend of Legion and Moab, so we're especially excited to promote his upcoming exhibition on January 26, 2011 at the Frost Art Museum in Miami, Florida.

Entitled, My Eyes Have Seen, this collection of Farber's work is described as "an impressionistic journey of sublime photographic imagery that evokes timeless emotion and takes the viewer into aesthetic realms."  Loosely translated, this collection represents some of the most beautiful images ever photographed by one of America's iconic fine art photographers.

As an added bonus the entire exhibition is printed on Somerset Enhanced Velvet 330 paper.

Heading South for ImagingUSA

We're on our way to San Antonio, Texas for the ImagingUSA show that kicks off on Sunday, January 16th.  We were hoping for a winter weather break, but from the looks of the past week, we're not too sure that's going to happen...

If you plan to attend the show come on over and say hi to us.  We'll be waaaaaaaay in the back of the convention hall in booth #1445 along with our buddies, Museo.

As a special bonus for making it over to our booth we'll have something really cool to show you.  Can't tell you about it here, but it will be well worth the trip.
